Almost everyone knows that I am an Ole Miss Rebel fan through and through. Ole Miss has always felt like home to me. Anytime we make a trip to Oxford and start towards campus, I am overwhelmed by the feeling of comfort, warmth and love that the feeling of "home" offers. If you ask Ole Miss fans to name their favorite thing on campus, almost all of them will say the "Grove." Even if you don't like Ole Miss, the Grove is an experience that everyone should encounter in their lifetime. It is truly unlike anything you have ever seen...chandeliers hanging from tents, beautiful floral arrangements, men and women dressed to the nines and food that goes on for days. So, why am I writing about Ole Miss? A coworker sent me a link to a video about the Grove that was recently produced by the Ole Miss Alumni Association. My coworkers' son is in part 2 of the video, so he wanted to share it with me. It may sound silly, but the video literally brought tears to my eyes. There's just something about Ole Miss that lives in you forever. Those famous words by Frank Everettt really ring true.
There is a valid distinction between The University and Ole Miss even though the separate threads are closely interwoven.
The University is buildings, trees and people. Ole Miss is mood, emotion and personality.
One is physical, and the other is spiritual. One is tangible, and the other intangible.
The University is respected, but Ole Miss is loved. The University gives a diploma and regretfully terminates tenure, but one never graduates from Ole Miss.
Even if you aren't an Ole Miss fan, check out the Grove video....
